his letter,
dated 18th November 2007 ref:- D/Min(AF)/BA MC05786/2007.
From the
penultimate paragraph on the second page, I quote, * By the time HMS
AMETHYST reached HMS CONCORD’s position at the mouth of the river
Yangtze on the morning of 31 July 1949, she had succeeded in making her
escape. * Unquote.
Here we have
a very profound statement being made by Ainsworth, that has within it
the inference that HMS CONCORD did not enter the river Yangtze on the 31st
July 1949 to go to HMS Amethyst’s assistance, as the Amethyst, had
succeeded in making its escape.
Prime
Minister, Brown, within the Churchill Archives Centre, Cambridge, there
exists papers and naval signals concerning the “Amethyst Incident” and
writings of Rear Admiral Sir David Scott.
There are
various signals, some showing Amethyst’s progress down the river then
there’s the signal to Concord, and the signals from Concord to Amethyst.
Also on file
is the telegram from Nanking to the Foreign office dated 31st
July 1949 which includes the line, “No repeat no publicity should be
given to the fact that HM Ship Concord entered Chinese territorial
waters”.
Further to
this a list of the items can be seen on an other website a sample of
which I will include on the next page, with that stated I do hope that
come the 27th June 2008 this great mischief that was
inflicted upon the 1949 Ships-Company of H.M.S. Concord, will be
corrected either by you as Prime Minister, or via Parliamentary debate. |
